How to play Slots
Slot machines (also known as slots) are very easy to play. All that you need are at least a couple of coins to insert into the slot and then pull the handle down (or press the button) to set the reels spinning. If the machine does not accept coins or if it is online, you must make a deposit first. You must then wait to see if you will hit any of the winning combinations of symbols, they should align in a particular way for you to win. All rules concerning the slot machine you have chosen to play on will be and must be displayed somewhere on the machine in front of you, just take your time to read them carefully before starting to play.
As a whole, in order to win at a slot machine, you must play longer because that was how slot machines were made – to return a fixed percentage of the amount that was inserted into them (these are the so-called straight slots – returning a fixed amount), therefore playing longer increases your chances of success. Be warned however that the way the machines were programmed has nothing to do with their decoration and might even be misleading. To improve the odds, you should perhaps choose the slots advertised to be returning 95% to 98% of all bets. Remember also that winning every time is impossible, so striving to regain the money you lost might end up with your losing all the money you have. And if you win, you must know precisely when to quit before starting to lose again; for instance, if you double the money you planned to spend on a machine at any given time while playing, quit immediately.
You may have decided to play just for fun of course, and perhaps that is how it should be like, just note that winning is fun as well, so becoming acquainted with the rules of the slot machine might prove worthwhile.

Beside the straight slots there are also the so-called progressive slots. On them you can play for a progressive jackpot, you must usually bet the maximum amount for that purpose. This jackpot is actually quite a large amount of money and would definitely change your life if you are really very lucky to win it. It is so large because it accumulates progressively from all the players who played for it before (not by all means on that particular machine because a lot of slots could be connected together).
Consider also the following expert strategies how to play slots best:
- Decide on a "loss number" – if you sit down in front of a machine and do not win anything for 6, 8, 10 or 12 spins, move on to a different machine; the same should apply if you hit as many losing spins after receiving a payout from a machine – move on. And if you try 3 or 4 different machines without much luck, change the casino.
- Decide on the amount you are willing to lose for a particular gaming session. When the amount (plus any payouts you may have added to it) is lost, quit playing.
- Decide how to handle your payouts. Keep 25%, 50%, 75% of what you win and add the remainder to your initial amount for further playing (the amount you are willing to lose).
It is also useful to know that:
- Three-reel machines, even if with a single payline only, give you the highest odds to win.
- Higher denomination machines usually have higher payback percentages – playing a single coin on a dollar machine should pay you better than playing three coins on a quarter machine.
